Happy Christmas from Maldives

Happy Christmas from the Maldives

This time I visited Maldives after many other trips during my previous work on this country and my last trip coinciding with teh Tsunami in 2005. This time my visit the Maldives was a surprise as is like to witness the slow death of one of the most beautiful places on earth.

For as well as being blessed to be here in Christmas with my family and friends with paradise islands, white sands, this unique tourist haven and poplar destination shows mounting evidence of an environmental catastrophe.

From research done by the Government Maldives, the signs of climate change are almost imperceptible, but there is a strong concern that the sea level is rising up to 0.9cm a year and within 100 years the Maldives could become uninhabitable as teh majority of islands are about above sea level.

Maldives was the first country to sign up to the Kyoto Protocol, which sets targets for cuts in industrialised countries' greenhouse gas emissions.
